A thought:

Two pages before our Gospel a woman from Canaan asked for healing for her daughter. Her believe in Jesus Christ' ability to heal gives Him the opportunity to reveal the universal scope of his mission. First he answers her in the fashion the jews would expect one of their Prophets to answer, rebuking her. But the Kingdom is not build out of tribal, national, political or linguistic Belongings it is founds itself on belief. Infact its Gates are open and the strength is not selfishness but relation, caring, letting God do His deeds through our hands. Thats why the poor is cared for in the city and justice is done.

Now our man today seems to be a Jew and he has no believe. Jesus reacts to him as impatient as when He is asked by the Pharisees for a sign. And of course he criticizes his disciples because they do not lend themselves even as much as a mustard seed to the design of God. After these many millions of years from creation to now he has every right to be impatient, don't you think?

Why are we not able, to give us to the Lord, to become a tool of the fulfillment of the creation? Often we have the wrong priorities. It is not so much what we are doing but the intention behind our actions that block our citizenship of the holy kingdom. While building a House, doing our job in a Bank or in the school do we remember that we are doing it always for the greater glory of God? Secondary as a construction worker intention shall be to build this or that House or as a banker to provide the funds there where they are needed or as a teacher to find always new ways to give the students the necessary education for a good start in their lives. Then in a third step we do have a claim for reward so that we might live and enjoy our life. Today this order is often shuffled up or even reversed and this brings then great suffering into families, communities and entire states.

Thus St. Paul is putting much emphasis on being in Christ. His whole focus is the one God. Through this he is able to write marvelous letters from the jail of Ephesus. He doesn't mind to work as tentmaker, because he is doing it in the Lord and he will preach whenever and wherever he has the opportunity, because that is his mission.

And strange in his zeal he is able to open the doors of Christianity to Non-Hebrew nations, following exactly the path which Jesus walked. The Word of God entered in the World and became Human to invite Humanity. And St. Paul, Pharisee, becomes open to the whole World.

This pattern of leaving the known and entering into a completely different ambience is deep rooted in human nature. Look at e.g. Cyrillos and Methodius, Marco Polo or Matteo Ricci they all left their countries and societies and integrated themselves deeply with the slavic people or with the Chinese. God implanted deep in our soul the desire to meet the other to try to understand him to the point to become one of the others people. It is also the pattern that makes us seek God and to hope for transformation so that we can fully communicate with Him.

Încolo, fraþii mei, bucuraþi-vã în Domnul.

² Pãziþi-vã de cînii aceia; pãziþi-vã de lucrãtorii aceia rãi; pãziþi-vã de scrîjilaþii aceia!

³ Cãci cei tãiaþi împrejur sîntem noi, cari slujim lui Dumnezeu, prin Duhul lui Dumnezeu, cari ne lãudãm în Hristos Isus, ºi cari nu ne punem încrederea în lucrurile pãmînteºti.

⁴ Mãcar cã eu aº avea pricinã de încredere chiar în lucrurile pãmînteºti. Dacã altul crede cã se poate încrede în lucrurile pãmînteºti, eu ºi mai mult;

⁵ eu, care sînt tãiat împrejur a opta zi, din neamul lui Israel, din seminþia lui Beniamin, Evreu din Evrei; în ce priveºte Legea, Fariseu;

⁶ în ce priveºte rîvna, prigonitor al Bisericii; cu privire la neprihãnirea, pe care o dã Legea, fãrã prihanã.

⁷ Dar lucrurile, cari pentru mine erau cîºtiguri, le-am socotit ca o pierdere, din pricina lui Hristos.

⁸ Ba încã, ºi acum privesc toate aceste lucruri ca o pierdere, faþã de preþul nespus de mare al cunoaºterii lui Hristos Isus, Domnul meu. Pentru El am perdut toate ºi le socotesc ca un gunoi, ca sã cîºtig pe Hristos,

⁹ ºi sã fiu gãsit în El, nu avînd o neprihãnire a mea, pe care mi -o dã Legea, ci aceea care se capãtã prin credinþa în Hristos, neprihãnirea, pe care o dã Dumnezeu, prin credinþã.

¹⁴ Cînd au ajuns la norod, a venit un om, care a cãzut în genunchi înaintea lui Isus, ºi I -a zis:

¹⁵ ,,Doamne, ai milã de fiul meu, cãci este lunatic, ºi pãtimeºte rãu: de multe ori cade în foc, ºi de multe ori cade în apã.

¹⁶ L-am adus la ucenicii Tãi, ºi n'au putut sã -l vindece.``

¹⁷ ,,O, neam necredincios ºi pornit la rãu!`` a rãspuns Isus. ,,Pînã cînd voi fi cu voi? Pînã cînd vã voi suferi? Aduceþi -l aici la Mine.``

¹⁸ Isus a certat dracul, care a ieºit afarã din el. ªi bãiatul s'a tãmãduit chiar în ceasul acela.

¹⁹ Atunci ucenicii au venit la Isus, ºi I-au zis, deoparte: ,,Noi de ce n'am putut sã -l scoatem?``

²⁰ ,,Din pricina puþinei voastre credinþe``, le -a zis Isus. ,,Adevãrat vã spun cã, dacã aþi avea credinþã cît un grãunte de muºtar, aþi zice muntelui acestuia: ,Mutã-te de aici colo`, ºi s'ar muta; nimic nu v'ar fi cu neputinþã.

²¹ Dar acest soi de draci nu iese afarã decît cu rugãciune ºi cu post.``
